Arthur A. Eaves, Jr. The RAPME 2010 Alumnus of The Year

As a rising 8th grader at Peabody Middle School, I was looking for career options that would suite me best. Since I would be soon entering high school I wanted to make preparations to make that goal a reality. I was good in Science and Math so my counselor suggested that I apply for R.A.P.M.E. I’m glad that I did. Having participated in the four phases of the program, I found a new appreciation for engineering and how it suited my strengths perfectly. R.A.P.M.E. introduced me to hands-on projects, plant tours, lectures by real engineers, and taught me how to become a successful engineer. Currently, I’m working for Alstom Power, Inc. as a Turbine Design Engineer. My responsibilities include, but are not limited to being the technical lead on repair projects from beginning to conclusion, ordering of parts, mechanical property analysis, and the analysis of 3D models.

Kenisha L. Pope The RAPME 2009 Alumnus of The Year

The first interaction I had with RAPME was when I was in 5th grade and student volunteers for RAPME came and gave a presentation on engineering. The one hands-on experiment that I remember we did was the wiring of a battery to light a light bulb. From that moment on my best friend and I decided that is what we wanted to do; we wanted to become engineers. As I continued through school I took classes that would prepare me for that career path.

When I was presented the opportunity to become a RAPME counselor I accepted the responsiblity and to this day I use that experience in what I do as a NSBE Region II Advisor.
